Doing a beautiful act for Jesus

UV 372/10,000 Do a beautiful act for Jesus Mathew 26 v 13 Mat 26:13 Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, there shall also this, that this woman hath done, be told for a memorial of her For a woman her bottle of perfume is one of the most precious possessions that she would not give up easily. But for a harlot it was one of the means of her profession- a necessity. Yet, Mary Magdala unreservedly poured a whole alabaster jar of the most expensive perfumed oil upon Jesus anointing Him from head to foot. The disciples were indignant not that a woman of low reputation had done this act for their Master but that she had wasted the equivalent of a whole year’s wages in this manner. In the gospel of Mathew as well as Mark, it is immediately after this event that Judas decides to betray Jesus. It appears that it was the immediate provocation for his betrayal. But Jesus chided them and lauded the woman for doing a “ beautiful thing” for Him for which she would be remembered all over the world and through history. He said that she was preparing His body for burial. Her one act would be her eternal memorial. A memorial we can understand from this passage is not what others build for us in the shape of a tomb after our death- it is what we do for the Lord while we are alive. What is our memorial? What is the beautiful thing we have done in our lifetime so far for the Lord? Are we willing to give up what is precious for the Lord? I asked myself that question. Perhaps, my giving a Bible to Queen Elizabeth II with a testimony of God as a faithful King of Kings was the beautiful thing I did for the Lord. Or my writing the longest praise and worship song of the Lord called “ The Great I Am” was my memorial for the Lord. Prateep V Philip
