The Higher Rock

UV 394-10,000 The higher Rock Psalm 61 v 2 Psa 61:2 From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I. Regardless of where we come from or from what financial, cultural or social background we come from, there are times when our minds are flooded with thoughts of anxiety. Our hearts are overwhelmed with emotions. These are the times when we cry out to the Lord in our helplessness and hopelessness. In such times, our faith is often weakened and we loose our focus. In such moments it is the Holy Spirit who leads us to take shelter in the Lord. The Rock is used as a metaphor for the Lord as He is unchanging, everlasting and competent to help and shield us in our every trouble. He leads us in such moments of affliction into His comforting and reassuring presence that is as strong, stable and secure as a rock. He calms our fears and restores perfect peace to our minds. The image that this uni-verse paints is that of a dove that hides from the storm of life in the crevice of a mighty rock. The winds and waters of the threatening storm cannot touch or reach the dove. It remains a mute spectator even as the rock shields it and the storm passes away. It is said that worry is worship offered to the wrong god. We must instead turn to the Rock that is Jesus and confide in Him our fears and anxieties. When we cry out to Him, He destroys these weapons of the enemy and keep it from hurting us in any way. His might, power and grace is made available to us. It is awesome that even as we cry out to the Lord, He is also attending to the prayers of billions of others like us who are overwhelmed by the issues in their own lives. None of these issues can shake or cause any trepidation in the Lord for His strength, His resources, His wisdom, His mercy, His love is higher beyond anything we can imagine.
