The Process of Regeneration and Renewal

UV 485/10,000 Titus 3 v 5 The Process of Regeneration and Renewal Tit 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost God’s standard of holiness or righteousness being absolute, no man can approach Him on the basis of his own merit. Rather, we can only rely on the Lord’s abundant mercy and grace to obtain forgiveness, cleansing or sanctification. The heaviest mental burden according to psychologists is the sense of guilt of wrong done by us. This burden can be lifted only by the washing of regeneration in the blood of the sinless sacrificial divine Lamb , Jesus Christ. The first Person of the Trinity provided the perfect sacrifice. The second Person Jesus became the sacrifice. Regeneration implies that the dead parts of the sinful nature in us need to fall away or be removed like old scar tissue. It also means that the new aspects of our spiritual being should be renewed or nurtured. The third Person of the Trinity, the Holy Spirit renews us by imparting an anointing or a spiritual empowerment or strengthening from within us. Renewal also includes the constant change of heart and mind brought about in us by hearing, remembering, understanding, obeying, claiming and applying the Word of God in our day to day lives. Every day’s events and stimuli in interaction with the spiritual elements described above produces a stirring of our spirits, a churning of our minds, a touching of our hearts’ chords. Growth results. Jim Rohn wrote that “ change is inevitable, growth is intentional.” He was referring to intellectual and emotional growth but spiritual growth is God-enabled. It is His abundant mercy that enables us to start over and over again when we fail-the process of regeneration. It is divine enablement or grace that keeps us growing. This is the process of renewal.
