Being A Signet Ring

UV 2074-10000 Being A Signet Ring
In that day, saith the LORD of hosts, will I take thee, O Zerubbabel, my servant, the son of Shealtiel, saith the LORD, and will make thee as a signet: for I have chosen thee, saith the LORD of hosts.
Haggai 2 v 23

Zerubbabel was a descendant of David, of royal descent and was one of those responsible for the re-building of Jerusalem and the temple. Jesus is addressed in this uni-verse as Zerubbabel as He too was of the house of David and of royal descent. But He was also the Son of God, of divine descent. Yet Jesus humbled Himself to be a servant of God. A signet ring is given to only such persons who were trusted by the king to issue commands, orders and edicts on his behalf. The signatory spoke, wrote and acted on behalf of the king. He could marshal his army, order payments from the exchequer, order people to be put in prison or to be released, to be bound or to be loosed. Jesus was chosen as the signet ring, the One who gave the seal of approval on behalf of the Lord of the armies of heaven. Whatever Jesus authorises or approves, the Lord authorises.

Today, if we believe Jesus, we too are chosen to be servants of the Lord. We are a modern day Zerubbabel, of royal and divine descent by adoption or by faith. We too are chosen to be a signet ring on behalf of the Lord. We affix the seal of approval on the judgement and mercy of the Lord and transmit these to the unbelievers. We too are re-building not a physical temple with a specific location in Jerusalem but a spiritual temple, the kingdom of God. We have the power and the influence of a king, a kingdom builder, an authority on earth. We are agencies to extend the rule and reign of the Lord on earth. On whatever we affix the seal of approval, the Lord will also approve and commend. We execute the will of the Lord on earth. We command the pleasure of heaven on earth.

Discipleship is the process of turning us into signet rings, to be able to use spiritual authority with responsibility, compassion and humility. The words “that day” refers to now, this day and time when the Lord requires us to act on His behalf. The day we receive Jesus as Lord and Saviour, the process of being a signet ring is initiated. We may have the manner and appearance of a servant but we are given the authority over all spiritual realms. The armies and forces of heaven can be marshalled by us. We can issue payments from the Lord’s exchequer, have people lifted up or brought down, rewarded or punished. We should be guided by the Holy Spirit in the exercise of these vast powers and influence.
